A library became a hangout space for film students

FTII_IndiDesign

IndiDesign transformed FTII’s Gajanan Jagirdar library into a dynamic hub of learning and interactivity that evokes creativity with its sunny aura. While the library retains its essence of knowledge sharing, it is now a welcoming space that inspires innovation and motivates students and faculty to spend more time perusing its resources.

The library’s original furniture was retained, and cosy bean bags were introduced to create a sense of familiarity, putting the visitors at ease. The low ceiling lamps add a contemporary touch to the ambience, while the artificial grass carpets highlight the reading area and set an inviting tone with colour and texture.

IndiDesign reorganised the library’s existing space into multiple sections, each with its distinct purpose. The huge picture windows, a part of the redesign, let in abundant natural light and create a visual connect with the outdoors. They open up the space, making it feel bright and airy. We also restructured the navigation system to enhance the accessibility to the library’s vast reading and audio-visual collection.

The thoughtful approach to the library’s transformation has resulted in a lively and welcoming environment for the institute’s students, faculty and alumni. It has evolved into an engaging space that encourages creative thinking and aids learning with seamless access to resources.
