Mixin takes off in Srinagar
Kashmir region’s first ever conference on Brand and Brand promotion “MIXIN” concluded on a very positive note at SKICC on 16th November 2012. Hosts of the event “Indi Design” was overwhelmed with response to the talks. More than 200 Businessmen, Industrialists, Entrepreneurs, Bureaucrats and designers from the Kashmir region attended this unique event.
Deputy Commissioner Farooq Ahmad Shah arrived in Srinagar straight from Delhi to “MIXIN” especially to underline the importance of Branding for Jammu and Kashmir. He accepted that most of us do not understand the subject hence need to pay close attention for the growth of Kashmiri Brands.
“MIXIN” was organised by the regions first International Design company ” INDI Design” that opened its office in Srinagar, with a young Designer/entrepreneur Uzma Showkat. Ms Showkat graduated in Interior and Furniture design from Delhi and did her Post Graduation in Interior design from the premium National Institute of Design. She worked with “Indi Design in Pune” before taking the initiative to become the Managing Director of the firm in Srinagar.

After the inaugural session where Industy chambers, and Ministry of Industry underlined the various schemes available for Brand promotion, Sudhir Sharma, CEO of Indi Design made a presentation on how he created Brands for Bajaj Auto and Pune city. Mr Sharma also publishes a Design magazine called ‘POOL
” that is read by 250,000 people around the world. The latest issue of POOL
magazine focuses on Design from the Kashmir region.
Prof. Shashank Mehta of National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, made a presentation on how design helps small industries in big way. He showed various projects from around the country that have taken help from Design Clinic Scheme. Packaging expert Deepak Manchanda from Delhi, showed how low quantity order packaging can enhance brand for small businesses. He talked about packaging of Saffron from Kashmir. Designer Ajay Gupta, also from Delhi presented role of Retail Design in Branding process. While showing various interesting projects he mentioned that experience design of Houseboats and branding them in Srinagar would enhance business for the Valley.
Ms. Showkat then made a short presentation on Indi Design’s first brand and retail project from Srinagar. A cafe named “The Other Side Cafe” could be the first modern Kashmir brand to become national. She showed pictures of the Cafe which will open in next few days to people.
Almost everyone felt Kashmir, Srinagar, Crafts from the region need Brand Attention to grow and gain international glory. There is a need for higher awareness of how branding is done. “Indi Design Srinagar” committed to bring international knowledge and know-how to businesses in the region. Sudhir Sharma, who himself hails from Jammu region promised to bring MIXIN back with more experts and more exciting Brand opportunities to Srinagar.
